Skrócony opis:

The goal of the lecture is to summarize students' knowledge of philosophical threads in psychology and provide them with relevant English terminology. Students will also learn how to identify philosophical assumptions in psychology.
Efekty uczenia się:

PPMpk_W03 Understands and uses the notions from philosophy, christian anthropology and psychology. Understands relations between philosophy and psychology.

PPMpK_U01 is able to use and integrate theoretical knowledge form psychology and related disciplines in order to analyze the roots and development of psychical processes, individuals' behavior and changes in society.

PPMpK_U03 is able to communicate effectively in English, using different channels and communication techniques

PPMpK_K09 respects cultural and national heritage, especially of Latin civilization, understands their role in psychological understanding of an individual and society

1. Psychology – not that young and not that old. Roots in Philosophy. The “therapeutic” stream in philosophy.

2. Methodological achievements of philosophy used in psychology: what is science, what counts as evidence, what inferences are legitimate to make given the data, what are morally permissible reasoning or clinical methods?

3. Philosophical concerns in psychology: What is a human being? Dualism and monism. The concept of person. The idea of soul. Consciousness.

4. Philosophical concerns in psychology: what is a human being like. Free will vs determinism. The place of humans in the world.

5. A case study: C. Vitz, Psychology as religion

6. Philosophical concerns in psychology: body-mind problem

7. Philosophical concerns in psychology: how human comes to believe or know

8. Philosophical concerns in psychology: what is happiness. Is there a goal of human being? What is the meaning of life

9. A case study: Paul Bloom Against empathy

10. Philosophical concerns in psychology: Why are we moral? What is good and what is bad.

Expected student's average workload :
